Dr Carmela Caputo

Endocrinologist

Principal practice: Pituitary Diseases

Dr Carmela Caputo is a holistic Endocrinologist specialising in pituitary disease management and hormonal issues. She also has a PhD in pituitary diseases.

Commencing practice in 2008, after undertaking endocrine training in London, Carmela returned to Australia working at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne as lead Endocrinologist in pituitary clinical services until 2021. She continues to work in collaboration with Melbourne’s most experienced pituitary neurosurgeons in private practice ensuring the best outcomes for pituitary patients.

Carmela is also a medical advisor for the Australian Pituitary Foundation, and helps directly to answer people’s medical queries; a role she considers vitally important and rewarding in meeting patient care and needs.

In 2022, Carmela won a prized scholarship to undertake a fellowship in nutritional and environmental medicine (NEM) – the Brighthope Foundation Entoura Scholarship for emerging leaders in NEM. This is the practice of integrative medicine, where health is supported by optimising nutrition and lifestyle.

She is happy to work alongside other like-minded integrative medicine general practitioners, naturopaths, and nutritionists and take a holistic approach to helping people though their endocrine health journey.

Given Carmela’s focus on pituitary and hormonal conditions, she is unable to see referrals for primary diabetes management.
